Falcons and Spartans Duel in Defensive Battle

by Justin Moses

The Florida Falcons (APDFL) and Jacksonville Spartans (EAFL) faced off in a preseason game on Saturday February 5th in which both teams are preparing for their season openers. This marked only the second time both teams have met in an exhibition or preseason game.

This proved to be a hard-hitting defensive battle all game with both teams having familiar faces on each side. Florida's offensive ground attack and their stable of backs moved the ball up and down the field all afternoon long, only to have foolish penalties and a non-existent passing game throttled what could have made the game out of hand. Multiple interceptions by both Falcons QBs and unsportsmanlike conduct penalties stalled or thwarted multiple drives into Spartan territory.

The Falcons defense spent most of the day in the Spartans backfield sacking QB Marcus Knudsen multiple times and dropping their running backs for losses. Florida's defensive unit multiple times had to shut down the Spartans offense after multiple Falcon's turnovers lead the Spartans deep into Falcon's territory with chances to score. Ultimately, Florida's defensive unit lead by linebacker Ty Paterson and the offensive ground game proved to be too much for the Spartans. Falcons 14 Spartans 0.
